Dried Whole Shiitake Mushrooms

A very versatile mushrooms. The shiitake is wonderful in many dishes and are very popular in Asian and Japanese dishes. They have a delicious meaty taste and texture. They are served in miso soup, used as the basis for a kind of vegetarian dashi, and also as an ingredient in many steamed and simmered dishes. They can be fried as well as steamed. There is a lot of research that has been done and if you look online to find the medicinal benefits of shitake you will be amazed.

The Substrate used to grow the shiitake are:

Sawdust, wheat bran, sucrose, gypsum powder

All are non GMO

Small, thin-fleshed dried shiitakes with barely any aroma. Many "twisted" (from the drying) caps. Pretty poor quality when compared with Chinese or Japanese dried shiitakes. Unsuitable for dishes (especially of an East Asian nature, but Western-type as well) that seeks to have shiitakes as the central feature. Useful as merely a contributing ingredient (cut-up or as the small whole caps) in dishes with other more prominent ingredients.
