A very versatile mushrooms. The shiitake is wonderful in many dishes and are very popular in Asian and Japanese dishes. They have a delicious meaty taste and texture. They are served in miso soup, used as the basis for a kind of vegetarian dashi, and also as an ingredient in many steamed and simmered dishes. They can be fried as well as steamed.
There is a lot of research that has been done and if you look online to find the medicinal benefits of shitake you will be amazed.
